Phase 1 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension will officially open this November, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista announced on Thursday.
During a Palace briefing, Bautista confirmed that partial operations would begin in the next two to three weeks.
“We are excited to share that LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is all set to open this month. This project is expected to bring significant benefits to commuters, including reduced travel time, improved air quality, and economic growth in the region,” said Enrico Benipayo, President and CEO of Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), at the briefing.
“We look forward to celebrating this milestone as a testament to the unwavering commitment of LRMC and our partners to provide a world-class transportation solution to the Filipino people,” he added.
The extension includes five new stations: Redemptorist – Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station.
Each of the new stations is equipped with elevators, escalators, and tactile guides for passengers with special needs.
Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is expected to cut down travel time from Quezon City to Parañaque City to under an hour.
Currently, integration works, the commissioning of train sets, and operational readiness are being reviewed to ensure a safe and seamless connection between the existing LRT-1 system and the extension.
Additionally, automated entrance gates, ticket vending machines, and teller booths have already been installed and tested.
