MANILA, Philippines — Due to overwhelming public demand, the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will extend its theatrical run for an additional week, now set to end on January 14, 2025.
Originally scheduled to conclude on January 7, the extension allows moviegoers more time to enjoy the festival’s 10 official entries, which will continue showing in select cinemas across Metro Manila.
The featured films in this year’s festival include “My Future You,” “Uninvited,” “Topakk,” “Hold Me Close,” “Espantaho,” “And the Breadwinner Is…,” “The Kingdom,” “Green Bones,” “Isang Himala,” and “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital.” Festival complimentary passes will remain valid until the new closing date.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman and MMFF overall chairman Don Artes expressed gratitude for the public’s enthusiastic support, emphasizing the festival’s importance in promoting local cinema.
“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” Artes said.
Artes also shared optimism about this year’s earnings, citing the festival’s potential to rival the record-breaking 2023 edition, which surpassed ₱1 billion in box-office sales and became the highest-grossing MMFF in history.
The MMFF’s extension highlights the enduring support for Filipino films, providing both audiences and filmmakers an additional week to celebrate the local movie industry.
